Cable Sizer

Cable Sizer is an electrical design tool for sizing cables and protective devices. The user provides the application with the load, distance of the feeder cable from the power intake point to the load, and the maximum voltage drop that the installation can accommodate. The user further makes selections of the cable, installation methods, and load details to calculate the appropriate cable size and protective device. The user also inputs the rating factors based on their selections of ambient temperature, soil thermal resistivity, depth of laying and group factor. A user would have to check the standard for correct group factor entries.

The application is based on BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition. Cable sizing takes into account the current carrying capacity of the cable in a given installation, the voltage drop, rating factors and availability of protective devices.

Load growth can be selected between 5%, 10% and 20% depending with the application to prevent overloading of the cables. The rating of the protective device is selected based on the available devices in the market, while taking into account adjustable circuit breakers.

The application allows for the creation of projects and saving data which can be downloaded in the form of project calculation results in PDF format and bills of quantities in Excel format for premium users.
